Summary

In this episode of The Investigation, the team analyzes the congressional call for President Trump's tax returns. Robert Driscoll, attorney for former White House personnel security director Carl Kline, joins to discuss a whistleblower's allegations that some security clearance applications granted were not in the best interest of national security, the House Oversight Committee's investigation into the review process, and why he believes the motivation behind their probe is actually digging up "opposition research" on the first family. Additionally, ABC's Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas weighs in to forecast the pending release of the redacted Mueller report.

Hi and welcome to another episode of The Investigation. I'm Kira Phillips, along with my co-host Chris Vlasto, senior executive producer of our investigative unit, and senior editorial producer Matt Mosk.

It's now been 15 days since Attorney General Bill Barr's summary of the Mueller report's conclusions was released

0:23.7

and 15 days of Democrats asking for the full report, demanding to see the raw material that Mueller collected during his investigation into Russian election meddling.

0:35.1

With Barr's redacted version of the report scheduled to be released by April 15th,

0:40.3

speculation over just what will be crossed out is already sparking some concern. But that's not

0:46.2

the only investigation we're tracking. House Democrats are ramping up their probe into White

0:51.3

House security clearances and have officially requested Trump's tax returns.

0:56.5

There's a lot to get into. So here to help us break it all down as Chief Justice correspondent, Pierre Thomas.

1:02.0

Pierre, Pierre, thanks so much of being with us today.

1:03.8

Always good to be here. All right. Let's talk about the report and the Battle of Redactions with Bill Barr.

1:09.3

Where do we stand? Well, he has two hearings this week.

1:12.6

He's before the House Appropriations Committee, and then on Wednesday, the Senate Appropriations

1:16.9

Committee. So even though it's about budgetary matters, he's also expecting some questions about

1:21.9

the Mueller report and to be perhaps pushed on that somewhat. So he's been preparing for that the last few days.

1:28.3

The latest that we're hearing about the report is that mid-April,

1:31.3

well, we're in mid-April just about.

1:34.3

So we're trying to get the sense that it's probably later this week,

1:38.3

maybe early next week, that we might actually get this redacted report.

1:41.3

And he's going to be redacting at least four categories, right?

1:45.2

Right. Category one, grand jury material, two, counterintelligence information, three,

1:51.3

information about ongoing investigations, and then four, people who are considered on the periphery

1:56.3

where there's information about them that may not be released. Now, Pierre, do you think, I mean, what's going to happen today at the Appropriations Committee?
