Hey, welcome to invention. My name is Robert Lam. And I'm Joe McCormack, and we're back with

part two of our discussion of invented words. So in the last episode we were talking about

neologisms that were deliberately invented. And continuing that today, I wanted to start out with

a distinction that we might find useful. And that's the difference between neologisms and something we

might call proto-logisms. So a neologism is a newly coined term that's like still in the process of

coming into common use. You might use the term because you're an early adopter of it, but it might

be the kind of word that people still need to look up a good bit. You might need to explain what it

means if you use it in an article. Right, it could very much be one of those words that you get the

feeling that people in the culture are trying to make happen. Yeah. They're trying to establish it

and get it into the everyday lexicon. Right, that would be what happens if it's successful. It just
