we're bringing you stories from the Arabian Peninsula. I'm going to take you back to the invention

of robot jockeys in Camel Racing. It paved the way for the ban on child jockeys across the

Middle East. I've been speaking to a man who helped develop the robot.

Camel Racing has been popular in the Middle East since medieval times, but in the last 50 years,

it's become big business. The cost of racing camels started at around $55,000, but thoroughbreds

can go for millions. Back in 2010, a camel racing fan from the United Arab Emirates spent $6.5

million on three camels. For that reason, Camelone is tend to be rich, like shakes,

prime ministers and princes. Erases are an event for betting and a tourist attraction.

The season runs from October to April. Racing camels can be up to two metres tall and

weigh the best part of a ton. The average speed of a race horse hasn't changed half a century,

but thanks to scientific breeding and state-of-the-art training, the average speed of a camel

has increased by 30%. They can now run at speeds of up to 65 kilometres per hour.

It costs around $1,000 a month to prepare a camel for a race, as they get their blood tested every

week and are fed on a rich diet including honey, fresh milk, eggs, dates and vitamins.
