For the past few years, as I was making Bearbrook Season 2, I was also bearing witness to the

most extraordinary reporting journey I've ever seen.

My friend and colleague, Lauren Troulgin, for three years has been chasing down the toughest

kind of story, and today I'm so proud to be able to finally tell you about it.

It's called the 13th Step.

It's the story of women who came forward to expose alleged sexual misconduct in the

addiction treatment industry.

But it's also about so much more, like the limits of the Me Too movement, and the dangers

that can come with doing this kind of journalism.

To put it mildly, the 13th Step is a story some people did not want us to tell.

Lauren's house was attacked in the midst of this reporting.

Lauren and I are both being sued because of this reporting.

The 13th Step is courageous journalism, but it's also a damn good story, made with the

same kind of care and attention to craft as you'd expect from Bearbrook.

I think it's the kind of story only a podcast series could truly capture.
