Abortion is one of the most divisive issues in America today.

And I'm Jamea Wilson, a writer, editor, and new co-host of Season 2 of Ordinary Equality. Last season, we talked about the past, present, and future of the Equal Rights Amendment, or ERA.

And if you remember, we discussed how the anti-ERA crowd uses abortion as a rally and cry against it.

Opponents sometimes even called the ERA the everything related to abortion amendment. So this season,

we're covering just about everything related to abortion. The story many of us were told about

abortion's history is actually wrong. We're going to complicate the narrative. The true story

of abortion history involves acts of resistance from disenfranchised women all across the country.

And what we had was a completely woman-run underground feminist abortion service.

Black women have been fighting for reproductive self-determination since our arrival in this

country. The story involves a calculated effort to discredit women and people of all marginalized genders,

and use anti-abortion rhetoric for political power. It had to be packaged as something bigger.
