Workers don't get a lot of respect these days. We're too lazy, too unproductive, too

entitled.

But the reality is that over the last decade,

it's been a pretty shitty time to be a worker.

The latest job numbers are out.

There are more signs of economic turbulence emerging and a labor

shortage the likes of which employers have never seen before so how and why did we

get here I I'm Arshi Mann and on this season of Commons we're going to

dissect the fascinating history and ever-changing present of what it means to be a worker in Canada.

I want to start with the workers.

From the rise of gig work and temp agencies that have turned job security into a joke,

it seems like every decision now is to get rid of us. To giant corporations

wringing out every ounce of profit by exploiting temporary foreign workers and

international students, Canada's temporary foreign worker programs are the subject of a scathing report from the United Nations.

Canada is the one that has developed these programs and we've got to hold them responsible.

To the relentless attacks against all of our wages, benefits, and even basic

working conditions.
