Hey there, Curious Kid Podcast listeners. Starting tomorrow and continuing on Saturdays, we are going to be releasing many episodes on each of the United States presidents in order, all the way from the first president, George Washington, to the current president Donald Trump.

Don't you worry because Olivia and I are going to get curious about new topics on Sundays like we always do.

Before we kick things off tomorrow, I want to explain why we've decided to record the

presidential mini episodes.

The United States of America is a democracy. What does that mean?

The word democracy has Greek origins, and it means rule by people.

In the United States, the citizens have the power.

The greatest power we have as U.S. citizens is our

right to vote. Here comes the sad news. Lots of people don't vote. In our last presidential

election, only 55.7% of eligible voters exercised their right to vote.

Even worse is that the 2016 election was one of the best turnouts in recent history.

In fact, the last time that two-thirds of eligible voters voted in a presidential

election was 120 years ago. The United States is near the bottom of the list of voter turnout by country

in developed democracies.

We need to do better.

As an educational podcast for curious children and their parents, we believe that we have

a role to play in improving voter turnout.

We want to help engage our listeners

so that they vote when eligible

and so that they encourage their parents to vote next year.
