In the summer of 2011, I was cleaning my house while watching C-SPAN, like all the cool kids do.

And I was watching a debate about a bill that funds energy and water projects because my husband

Joe is a solar power engineer and I wanted to know if his industry would be getting funding for 2012.

Well during the debate on that energy and water bill, Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma

submitted an amendment that made it into the bill that protected secret

campaign contributions and I know this because he said so on the floor of the

House of Representatives on C-SPAN, which is aired

nationwide.

Mr Chairman, in April a draft executive order was circulated that would force companies

as a condition of applying for a federal

contract to disclose all federal campaign contributions. In my opinion, if

implemented, this executive order would lead to a significant politicization of federal procurement

process.

This executive order would not in fact lead to more objectivity in the evaluation process.

It would instead chill the constitutionally protected right

of people to donate politically to whatever candidate

or cause or political party they choose to.
