On June 15th, I became America's 75th Postmaster General.

I did so because I believe the Postal Service plays a tremendously positive role in the

lives of the American public and the life of the nation.

This November, in the face of a pandemic, voters are expecting to rely heavily on vote by

mail.

On Friday, Postmaster General Lewis DeJoy tried to ease the nerves of lawmakers and the

American public.

I want to assure this committee and the American public that the Postal Service is fully capable

and committed to delivering the nation's election mail securely and on time.

In a virtual hearing in front of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs

Committee, the joy said the United States Postal Service is ready.

This sacred duty is my number one priority between now and election day.

Today, he made the same argument before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.

To be clear, we will do everything we can to handle and deliver election mail in a manner

consistent with the proven processes and procedures that we have relied upon for years.

The fact that DeJoy is testifying before Congress in the middle of August, when members

are typically on recess, is unusual.

These emergency hearings were called out of concern that DeJoy, a top donor to President

Trump, has been trying to interfere with the election.

In the two months that he's been in the role, DeJoy has reorganized and in some cases,

gotten rid of leadership posts at the USPS.
