Well, I'm Jake Tapper in Washington, where the state of our union is thankful.

Thankful that American service members on a dangerous overnight raid in Syria are safe,

and thankful that the world's most dangerous terrorist is dead.

Last night the United States brought the world's number one terrorist leader to justice.

Abu, Baccar, Al-Bagdadi is dead. He died like a dog.

He died like a coward.

The world is now a much safer place.

In often vivid terms the president confirmed in a morning White House address

that U.S. Special Operators, including Delta Force, carried at a high wire

rate in northwest Syria, ultimately cornering al-Bagdadi.

He died after running into a dead end tunnel,

whimpering and crying and screaming all the way.

He had dragged three of his young children

with him. They were led to certain death. He reached the end of the tunnel as our

dogs chased him down. He ignited his vest, killing himself and the three children. His body was

mutilated by the blast.

The president said a lab technician on the raid team proved it was al-Bagati and that DNA test

results were immediate and totally positive.

The raid produced important

intelligence the president said including plans for future ISIS
