Łukasz Żal earned an Oscar nomination for his first feature length film as the director of photography on Paweł Pawlikowski's Academy Award winning film "Ida." Five years later, the two have re-teamed for another stunning black and white Best Foreign Language Film Oscar contender with "Cold War." The film premiered at Cannes to great acclaim and has been making its way around the fall film festival circuit. Amazon Studios is releasing the film on December 21st 2018 but we were lucky enough to sit down with Łukasz Żal to talk about his work on the film. It must be very nice to see it receiving such a warm reception since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
