Matthew Lewis. Matthew, welcome to the show. Well, thank you very much for having me. Pleasure to be here.

When I first became interested in English history, it was the Wars of the Roses, which first drew me in.

What was it for you? It was the same, I think. I did Wars of the Roses for A-Level histories, which is the exams we all sit at 18 here in the UK. And I had a fantastic history teacher. I suspect that she was probably a closet Ricardian. She never told us as much.

But some of the things she said when I think about them now,

about looking careful at the evidence and thinking about where it came from,

those are all the things that stuck in my mind.
