After season two of What Really Happened, I looked up at my producer, who I'm looking

at now, Chris the producer, Flannery, and I said to him, we really need to talk to a

linguist.

After all, you know, if you think about it, so much of history comes down to how people

documented or articulated what happened.

And this documentation obviously comes from people from different countries, different

languages, different societies, different cultures within these countries.

And so I was doing some searching around about linguists and I came across this TED Talk.

It's called How Language Shapes the Way We Think by Lara Borditsky.

And I, I mean, like was just hooked.

It's an incredible TED Talk and apparently I'm not the only one.

It was the most popular TED Talk of 2018.

So some quick background before we get into the conversation with Lara.

She's an associate professor of cognitive science at the University of California San Diego

and editor in chief of frontiers in cultural psychology.
