So, Captain Kidd, let's just start off with the origin story. What first drew you to the

story of Captain Kidd? Well, I think for me, I grew up with stories of Captain Kidd because he's my

ninth great grandfather on my father's side. So I grew up with kind of tall tails that were sort of Treasure Island

type yarns of Captain Kidd growing up. And, you know, and so he was somewhere between sort of

an Errol Flynn's washbuckler and kind of a, you know, a roguish, but intriguing rogue is how it kind of was portrayed.

So, of course, when I, you know, wrote this book, he was nothing like what the stories that I grew

up with, you know, it was much more complex and nuanced kind of person.
