Stephen, how did you start your journey into this? It was on a Wednesday evening in 1971.

I know it was October. I was in Birmingham Kings Heath Birmingham

with two friends from school and we were walking home I don't remember where we'd been and

we came across a spiritualist church and the notice board said that in a few minutes

they were going to start something called an open circle we didn't know what it. My two friends wanted to go in and see because it was open.

If I remember correctly, I don't think I was terribly bothered about going in, but rather than go home on my own, I went with them.

And it was interesting. I can't say I was completely taken over by it at that point.

But as far as I'm aware, my two friends never went back, but I started going back.

Maybe once a month, maybe every two or three weeks.

I don't remember exactly, but on a casual basis.

So that was October 71.

And over the next two years, I was going on to different services, different events.

I can't say I was completely taken over by it, but it was a casual interest, gaining information.

And that's how it started really. It escalated from that.

And then you went into the RAF?

That's correct. I left school. I was still only, I was just still 15 when I left

school in, I think it was June 72, with the intention to join the Royal Air Force as soon as possible.

But I couldn't get into the Air Force until September 73 for various different reasons. So I got a
