series where I get to sit down with living people and talk about

the great traditions and ideas of the West. If you think about you know on Tuesday

we get to commune with the dead the Communion of, the great history of authors and writers who have gone

before, and then on Friday I bring it up into the present and speak with people who are doing

stuff out there in the world that I think offers and shows some hope for

revival, restoration, and resurrection in our present moment.

There's a moment fraught with crisis and with problems, but also always,

as ever, a moment where hope is possible and indeed a necessary virtue. So as always,

This time though I usually bring people on that I've heard

about in some way or whose work I know or you know maybe I've seen them on on Twitter but actually this is somebody that I've never met before in my entire life I have no idea how he weasled his way onto the show

But it's Andrew Clavin, no relation, who is in fact my father, if you were listening to this episode on Tuesday, you heard me talk about how both my father and my sister have new novels out right now and I mentioned that both of them are

profoundly moral novels. That is they're exciting stories with good characters realistic,

believable, but at the same time they take place within a moral universe and they have

spiritual and ethical themes that are really worth drawing out and talking about.

And my dad is obviously somebody from whom I got a lot of my love of literature and he's somebody that knows how to write a really great story, but also he's no no dummy he's read a lot of stuff a

lot of the stuff we talk about on this show and he passed it on to me and he

infuses his stories with these big ideas which I really love I think he does it in a really great way I'm a little biased obviously because he's my dad even though I'm not related to him
