Hey guys, welcome back to Young Hertics Conversations.

This is our interview series where I get to talk to friends, acquaintances, or just people out

there in the world that you make me aware of who are doing interesting stuff.

People that I think are in some capacity carrying forward the ideals and the traditions

and the heritage that we talk about on the regular show. You know on Tuesdays

I get to talk with you a bunch about Athens and and Jerusalem these two great pillars of

Western civilization and we discuss you know one of my big themes is the way in

which this is not just a series of books on a shelf. This is a great society, a secret society, a conversation

across time and space that we get to be a part of, that we get to live out in our daily lives,

and it's easy in that project to start to feel despair to kind

of like give into the doomerism and to feel as if everything is on the verge of collapse

all the time.

As I'm recording this, the big news story right now

is the Trump mug shot.

Just this incredible image to both sort of iconic

and terrifying of a former president you know in Georgia with his you know taking this

mug shot and and I have to admit that those sorts of stories make me feel as

if whatever your political persuasion it's hard to look at the situation

and think that we're in a healthy republic right and think that we're kind of

carrying forward the best of what's been thought and said without any problems and so

when the world scale can look so terrifying,

it's important to remember that this is not the first time
