Summary

In this interview episode, I’m joined by former trainee detective Jade Cameron.

When Jade finally achieved her dream of becoming a detective, she discovered that the reality wasn’t quite as she'd imagined. Living the Dream: Confessions of a Trainee Detective offers a gripping and unfiltered look at the hidden realities of life as a detective in training.

With unflinching honesty, Jade pulls back the curtain on her journey within Thames Valley Police, exposing the camaraderie and conflicts, the pride and frustrations, the adrenaline-fuelled moments, and the thankless tasks.

Her powerful memoir will captivate, enlighten, and take you far beyond TV's glamour and heroics. Jade takes you on a journey that is eye-opening, deeply personal, and profoundly human, as she discovers what it truly means to live the dream.

Okay, everyone, I am here with another interview episode, and this time I have Jade Cameron on the show.

0:34.1

And what we're going to do is somewhere a bit different to what you're used to.

0:38.5

We're going to get straight into this book that Jade has written about a time as a trainee detective. This book is called Living the Dream, which I'm going to

0:43.9

ask you first of all, is that kind of an ironic title because you kind of think is living the

0:49.9

dream, but perhaps it wasn't. Is that what it is? Yes, yes. It is definitely ironic.

0:56.7

However, it started out very unironic because when I first joined the police,

1:02.4

that was actually a dream come true for me and something that I worked towards for a very long time.

1:09.0

So in the beginning, it started out unironically, as this was my dream job,

1:14.1

and I was super excited to have it. And then there was another part to that title where a lot of the

1:20.0

time when in the police you went up to someone and you said, hey, how is it going? How are you?

1:26.5

They would say, living the dream. That was always like the standard response. So yeah, that's where the title

1:31.6

came from. Yeah, it's a very British saying that. People used to say it at my office job. And

1:37.1

it's such a British dry response. Good day, bad day, even if you have it the worst time ever,

2:01.6

living the dream. That's what it is. Yeah. So that was a very standard response to the police that you get a lot. And then it was also a bit of a moment of realization for me at some point when I was a bit at a low point doing my time in the police. And I went up to someone. I said, how are you? They said, living a dream.

2:07.4

And something sort of clicked on my head. And I was like, a second, this was actually my dream. But now it's become, you know, something, something sarcastic, something completely different.

2:13.7

So it was also a bit of a moment of realization at some point when someone said that to me.

2:18.7

Okay.

2:19.8

So this book, we're going on a tangent there, but this book, Living the Dream, Confessions of a Trawny Detective is the subtitle here.

2:27.6

Released, I'm looking on Amazon here that says, released in April.

2:30.9

Yourself published this, right?

2:32.9

Yeah, that's right.
