So yes, I think the US is an empire in decline, but I'm not one of those observers who say, yeah, that's great. We'll have a Chinese empire. That will be wonderful. No, I don't think so.

an energy and peace researcher, the head of the Swiss Institute for Peace and Energy Research,

but also, perhaps equally notably, as the author of some important works,

including NATO's Secret Armies, Operation Gladiow and Terrorism

in Western Europe, and most recently, USA, The Ruthless Empire. Two books which I will commend

Hello, James. Thanks a lot for inviting me.

All right. Well, I suppose since this is your first time on the program, we'll get into

a little bit about yourself and what

motivates you, but let's do so by recourse to your latest book, USA, The Ruthless Empire,

which I definitely do commend to people's attention, and we'll get into the specifics of it,

but I guess instead of me trying to summarize it for you, why don't you summarize it for the audience? What is the

overall thesis of this book and what were you hoping to accomplish by writing it? Yeah, I wrote

this book because I think the US has a lot of influence on international politics and everybody

who's interested in international politics must look at the US.
