Thank you. James, what is volunteerism and why are you a volunteerist?

Voluntarism is the ethical principle that any relations between adults should be based on the principle

that we are in a voluntary interaction.

It's very simple.

And I think this goes back to basic precepts about the fundamental underlying morality that

we all seem to be working from and that we all understand even as children,

that yes, you shouldn't be trying to take someone else's stuff without their permission.

You shouldn't be trying to punch someone to get them to do something that they don't want to do.

These are basic ethical principles that we all give lip service to, but for some reason, there is an overriding thing

that takes over our psychology when you introduce the government. There is some other entity

that can transcend these basic ethical principles that we have in our day-to-day interactions with

each other and that we abide by in 99% of our life in our daily interactions with other human beings.

But somehow there's certain people with certain shiny badges and certain hats that can override that.

And I'm just one of the people who say, no, I think this should apply 100% to all of our interactions.
