So let's get straight into it.

Interstitial nephritis is a term to describe a situation where there's inflammation of the space

between the cells and the tubules.

And this space is called the interstitium within the kidney.

This is different to glomerial anphritis, where there's inflammation around the glomerulus

and the nephrons. Interstitial nephritis is inflammation in the space or the interstitium

within the kidneys that lies between the glomerulus and the nephrons.

There are two types of interstitial nephritis. One is acute interstitial nephritis and the other is chronic tubulo interstitial nephritis.

So first let's talk about acute interstitial nephritis and this usually presents with an acute kidney

injury and hypertension.

So there's acute inflammation of the tubules and the interstitium,

which is remember that fluid between the cells and the tubules in the kidney.

And this is usually caused by a hypersensitivity reaction to medications like non-steroidal

anti-inflammatory drugs or antibiotics, or it can be caused by a hypersensitivity reaction to an infection.

There's some other features of a generalized hypersensitivity reaction that can accompany

an acute kidney injury.
