Summary

Working class communities around the world are organizing against capitalism. They are also forging a new international movement of solidarity and cooperation in the International People’s Assembly. How can organizers build international unity, and oppose the tools used by the ruling class to divide and defeat the popular movements that are expanding democracy while fighting to save the planet?

Brian is joined at the People's Summit for Democracy by Stephanie Weatherbee Brito with the International Peoples' Assembly.

We need a new system. We need a new society.

We need to demand that which may have sounded impossible even a few weeks ago,

0:09.0

but is not only realizable, but an imperative necessity. Welcome back to the Socialist Program. I'm your host, Brian Becker. We're here at the People's Summit for Democracy in Los Angeles. We're talking with Stephanie Weatherby. She's an organizer with the International People's Assembly. Welcome.

Hi, Brian.

Assembly.

1:32.1

that have come together over the past five years to try to build a global movement

1:36.5

against imperialism, against capitalism, against patriarchy and racism.

1:41.3

And so our goal is to organize global days of action based on the understanding that only

1:47.5

a global movement is going to be able to confront the root of the injustices that are

1:52.0

experienced in communities across the world.

1:54.7

So even if an issue seems like it's very different from one place to another, the root cause

1:59.8

is still fundamentally the same one.

2:02.1

And sometimes it's even the same enemies that we're facing. So you could see it very clearly,

2:07.0

like some of the same investment firms that are buying up homes in Los Angeles and that are leading
