The Federal Reserve is slowing its interest rate hikes, but they are still going up.

This time around, the Central Bank raised its key interest rate by a quarter of a point.

That's the smallest increase since March of last year, when the Fed first started its

aggressive campaign to tame inflation.

There have now been a total of eight rate hikes, so the range has gone from near zero to

four and a half to four and three quarters.

Meaning it costs Americans more to borrow money now than it has at any time since 2007.

As you know, that makes it more pricey to take out a mortgage, an auto or business loan

or new credit card debt.
