It is very common to hear in the wake of tragedy, usually, when people are saying things on social media like,

you are in my prayers or thoughts and prayers.

There's a mocking of prayer as though it were an empty exercise, as though it didn't accomplish anything.

When scripture teaches that prayer to the true God, prayer of a faithful man availeth much, says Scripture, and this

means that prayer is quite powerful, not that the prayer itself has any power, but the one

to whom the prayer is addressed has all power.
