Summary

USA Today reported that the Monterey Park shooting "revived the fears and trauma of anti-Asian hate for the Los Angeles Asian community," and, as Steve Green points out, they wrote this AFTER they were aware that the shooter was himself Asian. USA Today reported that the Monterey Park, California shooting left 11 people dead now, has, and this is a quote, revived the fears and trauma of anti-Asian hate for the Los Angeles Asian community.

0:13.8

There are just two tiny little problems with the USA Today's story.

0:18.3

Number one, the killer was Vietnamese, and two, USA Today knew that

0:23.4

before they published that story. Hi, everybody. I'm Steve Green with Scott Ott and Zoe Rachel,

0:31.0

filling in for Bill Whittle this week. Welcome, Zoe. This is Right Angle, brought you by the members

0:34.8

of Bill Whittle.com. Gentlemen, this is one of those stories.

0:37.8

I wrote about this on Monday for PJ Media because, boy, did it get my eye up when I saw

0:42.7

the timestamp on this USA Today story about killer fuels, anti-Asian fears and hate

0:52.0

and all the rest, the timestamp on the story was about 4.45 in the afternoon

0:58.4

on Sunday. This is hours and hours after we knew the identity of the killer. And I'm not going to

1:05.2

mention his name. I don't believe in giving these people any publicity. Good. The incident, USA Today reported, has revived the fears and trauma brought on by a wave of hate

1:29.9

That's their job is, one of their jobs is to do that. But I do blame the editors for going with

1:38.8

this false narrative angle hours after they knew that that wasn't the case. What about you? There are a couple of

1:48.9

problems with coverage like this. The first is that the fact that we have 24-7 news

1:55.0

live streams basically now means that the news editors have to fill the time with something even when there's nothing.

2:03.6

So when we don't have any additional information, they quickly tire of simply regurgitating the

2:09.4

basic facts that came out in the initial police press conference and they have to start looking

2:13.5

for other angles. So they go around and interview people who are completely witless about

2:18.5

what happened, even if they were there. They don't know why it happened, who did it, or whatever was

2:23.5

going on. And so then you put that on TV in front of a camera from some traumatized person,
