Summary

March 2020

Bletchley Park Museum is currently closed as a precautionary measure to help contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Our staff and volunteers like so many around the world are in lockdown, self-isolation or working remotely from home.

Bletchley Parks CEO Iain Standen said “This isn’t the first time that Bletchley Park has operated at unprecedented times of national crisis and it is the values of those that have and still work here – understanding, collaboration, integrity, perseverance, resilience – that we hold dear at this moment.”

While we can we will continue to produce our normal podcasts but in addition to that the Podcast Team have decided to bring you something each Friday for the next few weeks. With 8 years of content we will not only return to some gems from previous shows but also bring you things that have not been heard before.

For this first episode our producer Mark Cotton has dipped into the over 100 hours of recordings to bring you a selection of interviews that he has found most memorable.

Included are:

Wyn Ribchester
Flo Cole
Mary Watkins & Betty Webb
Marigold Freeman-Attwood
Jeannie Kotchie

We hope all our listeners, their families and friends, stay safe and well.

27th of March, Intelligence Insight number zero one.

0:26.2

Hello, this is Mark, the producer of the Blecksley Park podcast.

0:29.8

Currently, Bletchley Park has had to close as a precautionary measure to help contain

0:34.7

the spread of the coronavirus.

0:37.2

And like many of you, our staff and volunteers are either in lockdown or self-isolation

0:43.3

or, you know, many of them are working from home even.

0:46.4

But while we can, we're going to continue producing our normal podcasts, but also myself

0:52.9

and the podcast team decided that it would be nice if we

0:55.8

could bring you something every week for the next few weeks at least. What we're going to do

1:00.7

is every Friday you'll receive a new episode from us, so it will either be one of our normal

1:06.9

Bletchley Park podcast shows that we already had planned. And in between those, we're

1:11.5

going to do, as you may have heard in the new intro, extra shows called Intelligence Insight.

1:16.9

What we're planning to do with these shows is with the eight years of content we've got,

1:21.5

we're going to bring you some gems from previous episodes, probably based on a theme,

1:27.1

but we're also going to bring you some content

1:28.7

that you won't have heard. There's a few things that we just didn't have a chance to put out

1:32.2

at the time. So you will get some exclusive content as well. So for this very first episode,

1:38.9

I've decided to bring you what for me personally were probably five of the most memorable interviews. The first of

1:46.8

these is a lady called Wynne Ribchester, who I interviewed very early on in the podcast back in

1:52.1

2012. Now, Wynne has quite a unique story to tell because she was at Bletchley Park during

1:58.7

World War II, but she wasn't serving at Bletchley Park.
