Summary

Who would have thought it? Jeremy Corbyn’s insurgent party co-venture with Zarah Sultana seems to have imploded before it even got going. On Thursday, 'Your Party' supporters received an email from Zarah Sultana detailing how they could sign up for a £55 membership. Soon after, Jeremy Corbyn released a statement – co-signed by the so-called Gaza independent MPs that make up the as-yet-untitled party – which dismissed Sultana’s email as ‘unauthorised’, and that they were seeking legal advice.

James Heale describes how it has the air of a 'South American coup', with both sides briefing against each other, including Zarah Sultana’s camp accusing Jeremy Corbyn of overseeing a ‘sexist boys’ club’. It is all getting very personal, and the disagreement seems to stem from a fundamental clash of egos between the two founders. Is this mortal for the party? And who stands to benefit: Keir Starmer, or the Green party’s dynamic new leader, Zack Polanski?

Oscar Edmondson speaks to James Heale and Sienna Rodgers, deputy editor of The House Magazine and ‘Your Party’ whisperer.

Edwinson and I'm joined today by James Heel and Sienna Rogers, who is the deputy editor of the House magazine. Now, who would have thought it? Jeremy Corbyn's insurgent party, that along with Zaras Alana, your party seems to have imploded before it really even got going. James, can you take us through the news from yesterday? Well, yeah, I was at Chekker, so I mean, seeing of this over the sort of airwaves reminded me of a bit sort of like, you know, one of those coups in South America where they're fighting over the radio stations, going, all these messages were being sent out who exactly was in control. Yesterday morning, there was a message sent out by your party suggesting you can sign up now, £55 membership a year. There were later

1:28.3

reports that I think it was something like 20,000 people had signed up. But then in the afternoon,

1:32.0

we got a separate urgent statement from Jeremy Corbyn suggesting that actually what was sent out was

1:36.9

wrong, that actually they had an intended to launch in this way. And the direct debit set up should

1:41.4

be cancelled. As a result of that, Zara Sultana then put out a second follow-up statement and said that

1:47.3

she was calling on Jeremy Corbyn for a meeting.

1:51.2

And suggesting that she'd been cut out by the, quote, sexist boys club of the policymaking

1:55.5

and decision-making about of your party.

1:58.3

And it's noticeable that we've had a couple of different statements in recent weeks in which the kind of so-called Gaza Six have become the Gaza Five, which is that the sort of four Gaza Independence and Jeremy Corbyn previously were putting their name's statement with Zara Salana. Now they've stopped doing that. And so this whole row about sort of has Zara Sultanah unilaterally launched it for a second time.

2:18.2

Of course, the first time was the death of spectator's summer party.

2:20.2

Yeah.

You know, and do you remember all of that?
