There's another shockwave moving through the hockey world and the high ranks of the

NHL today as more stories emerge of coaches allegedly mistreating players.

The hockey world is grappling with a series of allegations that threaten to upend the game and its culture.

Several players have called out abusive behavior from coaches,

dividing teams and fans. Today, the inside story of a sport at a crossroads. I'm Mina Kimes. It's

Emily, take me back to when this story initially started developing. What happened at first? Well, Mike Babcock is the coach of the

Toronto Maple Leaf, and he's the highest paid coach in the league. Emily Kaplan covers the NHL for ESPN.

But his team was underperforming like crazy, and so on November 20th, he was actually fired.

And then afterwards, we started to hear some stories being reported in the media about Babcock's

coaching tactics, specifically how it could be psychologically abusive to some young players.

Babcock was alleged to have asked one of the Leaf rookies to list the players on the team

from hardest working.

And there was one incident that was really damning about Mitch Marner when he was a rookie.

Babcock had Marner write down every player on the team and said, who is the least hardworking

and who's the most hardworking.

The rookie did so not wanting to upset his coach, but was taken aback when Babcock told the players

who had been listed at the bottom of the list.

Babcock went behind his back and told all the rest of the players that Bartur told him

about in confidence.

Did it seem at the time like this was a discreet one-off incident?

It totally did.
