Summary

Indie singer/songwriter Gregory McLoughlin's new self titled arrives Dec 12th to all streaming platforms!    For years, Gregory McLoughlin has done what most artists won’t – stream every Monday night to a loyal online crowd, play to anyone who’ll listen, and find ways to turn small moments into connection. His debut album carries the weight and warmth of that work, and I'd love to get your thoughts on setting something up with Greg to help tell his story over the next few weeks.   Gregory’s story is really about building connection the long, patient way. He’s spent years doing it the only way he knows how – showing up with a bass, a kick drum, and a foot tambourine, asking strangers in parking lots and campgrounds, “Can I play you a song?” Sometimes they walk away, sometimes they sing along, and every now and then, a whole campsite joins in. That fearless, face-to-face kind of performing has quietly become his trademark.Around Hoboken, he’s a familiar face; if you’re part of the local music scene, you probably know Greg. A few years ago, through nothing but charm and persistence, he convinced Symposia Bookstore on Washington Street to let him play there once a week – and somehow, it stuck. Now, every week, people gather in that cozy little bookstore to see him play. It says everything about who he is: steady, fearless, and completely committed to connecting with people, even if he’s never been the coolest guy in the room. Make sure to check out his new self titled album, arriving Dec 12th!   Website: www.GregoryMcLoughlin.com Social Media www.Instagram.com/GregoryMcLoughlin    About Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris The Music Matters Podcast is hosted by Darrell Craig Harris, a globally published music journalist, professional musician, and Getty Images photographer. Gregory McLaughlin, how you doing today? I'm great. How are you? I'm good. You're very

0:26.5

welcome. So you're in Jersey. You're kind of on the border of Hoboken. I think you should mention

0:31.7

Jersey City. You play all over the area. You have some regular gigs. You do there. You've become very well known for a regular weekly streaming gig that you started, I think, back in the COVID days.

0:43.7

You have a new album coming out, which is under your name.

0:46.9

That comes out December 12th.

0:49.1

So tell me your story.

0:50.6

How did you get started in music?

0:52.7

And then we're going to get to the album as well?

0:55.4

As far as getting started in music, I was just a live music fan my entire life. And then

1:00.0

when I was in my mid-20s, I started playing the bass around the age of 24, 25. And I joined some

1:06.9

bands and got kicked out of some bands. And I found a regular gig with a band called Buzz

1:13.3

Universe from 2003 to 2012 where I really blossomed as a bass player. It was an up-and-coming

1:19.8

eclectic jam band, I would say, and we had a really good run, got pretty popular, but then we broke up

1:26.9

and I started working on

1:30.0

songwriting a lot. And I actually took a songwriting class around that time and kind of found

1:35.9

myself as a songwriter. And that's really been my main pursuit ever since then.

1:39.9

Yeah, and your songwriting is very story-driven, it feels like, especially the new album,

1:44.0

which I was just checking out. How did you develop that style? Is that something you kind of

1:48.1

gravitated towards, or was there certain heroes of yours that you really like that you kind of

1:52.5

influenced you as a young musician?
