This week, a Politico report ripped the lid off of deep tensions that have been simmering for some time now between the New York Times and the White House.

President Biden's advisors see the paper of record as arrogant and unwilling to give Biden a fair shake.

The Times responds that Team Biden unreasonably wants to control coverage of the president.

We think this debate is badly in need of some major clarifications.

The Times is doing some great and revelatory work covering this election, particularly the threat

of Donald Trump, but at the same time, a fair amount of the criticism of the Times is reasonable

and correct, gets at some important journalistic issues, and is often

misunderstood, not least of all, by some people at the Times itself. To discuss this, we've
