modernity while also shoring up loyalty by crushing dissent. It seems the outrage has faded

over the killing of Washington Post columnist and prominent Saudi

Arabian critic Jamal Khashoggi. Now you may remember in 2018, Saudi agents killed and

dismembered Khashoggi at a Saudi consulate in Turkey, prompting worldwide condemnation.

But with the transactional Trump in office and the cold calculus that both countries
