Welcome back to Buckeye Talk, 614-50-3-315. I'm Stephen Means. That's Stefan Christ again,

1:08.8

Andrew Gillis, and I send you that number because it's a two-week free trial through 99 after that. But I just threw so much information. So much information. And I got more that I want to get through. It's just I'm trying to regulate my thoughts and where my head is right now because we just watched a full practice, Ohio State practice number seven of the spring. It was also student appreciation day. They let the students and it was a lot less students this year, but also it's Easter weekend. So I don't think that was done accidentally. I think that was, you know, listen, we're still talking about college sports here. They don't want anybody to know anything because they think they have the nuclear codes in the building. But Stefan, this was, I guess we got to start with the news of things because there are a lot of things that when you haven't seen practice in a while, that there's just like things we have to check off. So let's start with the offensive line in the fact that Ohio State starting tackles from 2025. We're not only not practicing. They weren't in the building. Yeah. And I can actually kind of tie this into what my first point was going to be because i wanted to talk about offensive line in this but on the newsy side yeah philip daniels and austin serevold we're not practicing based on what we've heard it sounds like they they probably won't practice at all the rest of the spring stephen i know before we got on here you toss out the idea of like like maybe Austin Seravel could work his way back. At that point, maybe you're even just wondering, like, is it worth it at this point of spring for a veteran guy to be pushing it? So that's the newsy side. And kind of the thought or like question I had going into practice that that kind of helped answered is just like we've had a million questions

2:35.2

about the O line, the possible combinations, who fits where, Ian Moore being a big part of that

2:39.9

puzzle. And these injuries, I guess, kind of provide answers in a sense of like there's going to be

2:46.6

more reps now for people to make their case, right? If there was, if there was 10 reps for Ian

2:53.2

Moore to make his case as a starting left tackle, now it's 20. If there was five reps for Carter

2:57.9

Lowe to make his case as a starter or starting caliber guy, now there's 15, right? Like that's,

3:04.1

that's what this, this presents. And you and i were we're talking to someone

3:07.8

after practice ended and you know we were asking about you know the the the reps that you know come

3:12.8

up it and i brought up the example of the 2024 football season where you know in august they're

3:17.3

going through fall camp and preseason camp and there's a illness spreading along the offensive line

3:23.0

it's like whatever five guys showed up to practice that day, they were the five offensive linemen.

3:28.0

Wherever you fit is where you fit.

3:30.0

And we got to December and it's like, hey, thank God they had those reps in August because now Austin Serravelle is having to rotate and Luke Montgomery starting.

3:37.0

And Carson is back in the lineup and Donovan Jackson, you're playing left tackle. And everyone knows what happened and what they were able to manage to win a national title that year. And I think that this is in the long term, ideally going to be that, right? Because there's a domino effect to this too. Austin and Philip being out means that Ian and Carter Lowe are getting first team reps at left tackle and right tackle respectively. That also means Sam Greer is getting a lot of second team reps at left tackle, right? And I mean, the whole like second team offensive line was a bunch of dudes who have not played a lot of football at all, right? I'm not just, I'm not talking about like playing football like in games. I'm talking about like they haven't practiced a ton of Ohio State, right? And that's, yeah, yeah, there's this trickle down of that where it's like a lot of people are going to be able to benefit from these opportunities. And as long as there's no long-term concern, and we reported that there isn't long-term concern with Philip Daniels and Austin Saraville. If there's no long-term concern, then like this should ideally come August and then, you know, by the time you get to January, be something that Ohio State can benefit from.

4:36.5

Not just in terms of figuring out a starting lineup, but like this could help you in 2027 that Carter Lowe got these first team reps in spring 2026, right?
