Hello, this is Carl Raymond, host of the Gilded Gentleman History podcast where every two weeks we journey into corners light and dark in America's

Gilded Age, France's Belle-Puc and England's late Victorian and Edwardian eras.

All of us that follow film, TV, and theater know all too well that so much goes on, off

stage, or behind the camera that we as the audience

just never see. It takes an army of technical crew and creative artists in addition to the cast

that we see before us to make it all work. In the world of filming TV, at the helm of many productions is the producer.

Playing a different yet complementary role to the director,

the producer is often the magician who keeps it all running,

can pull rabbits out of hats at a moment's notice,

and make complex stories with complex characters just make sense for all of us in the audience.

There's been so much press about the intricacies of creating and filming our favorite series,

Julian Fellows the Guilded Age for HBO. Not only is an extensive team required to produce

the elaborate sets, the stunning costumes,

and authentic props, but also to make sure the multiple, many-layered storylines weave

together effortlessly, and in the end, a script becomes transformed into a story.

I'm incredibly lucky today to have with me one of the producers

of HBO's The Gilded Age, Luke Harlan. As you will hear, as one of the producers of the series,

Luke's job can dramatically change on a daily basis, but it's in his capable hands that so many of the smallest details

and largest goals are molded and shaped into a glittering and gilded world.
