Summary

When Thomas Frank was appointed Tottenham Hotspur’s new head coach in June 2025, his task was to rebuild the club’s culture. But the defining image of his tenure — or rather the defining sound — was booing. And booing directed specifically at him. On today's Tifo Football Podcast, Joe Devine & Jon Mackenzie read and analyse Jack Pitt-Brooke and Jay Harris' inside read on Thomas Frank's sacking at Spurs. In this new format, 'Ring For Analysis', conversation ranges from booing, to unconscious downing of tools and a points-per-game quiz.

Hello and welcome to the TIFO football podcast. I'm Joe Devine.

0:07.7

And today, I'm audio joined by John McKenzie.

0:11.4

Audio, hello.

0:12.4

You're also here in real life.

0:14.3

Yes.

0:14.6

But I say audio joined because this is an audio only special episode of the TIFO football podcast.

0:19.9

Isn't it, John?

0:20.6

It is. Some people would say that we have faces for audio, so. Some people would say that we've regressed technologically. We've got, we're sort of zinging while others zag. It's true. Let's go back in time. Anyway, this is a, the reason this is a special episode is twofold. There are two reasons, not just one. The first is Thomas Frank was sacked as Tottenham coach yesterday, and so we're taking the opportunity to talk about that a little bit, but in a very special way, because the second is that this is a new edition of the TFO football podcast, a new format, some would call it. What's it called, John?

Ring for analysis? Or... Boz for analysis? Depending on where you're from. I like the idea that it's sort of a bit of both. I hope that I'd have a little bell for you today. I was going to say, well, I'm going to do neither. Nothing for analysis. I'm going to add in a bell in post.

1:10.7

So for today I'll ask you where you would normally ring a little bell, just to pop your finger up in the air, pop your hand up in the air.

1:16.2

And I'll say, yes, John. I don't want to clap. I don't want to clap. I don't want to make it easier for you. I don't want you to make any noise until I address you. Okay. Now, the reason that I would love John to have a bell is because ring for analysis works like this.

1:28.3

You'll all know, I'm sure, listening, that The Athletic publishes... I would love John to have a bell is because ring for analysis works like this.

You'll all know, I'm sure, listening, that The Athletic publishes many very exciting long reads,

1:34.1

the most exciting of which have those juicy bullet points at the beginning.

1:37.9

Now, today's doesn't have any bullet points, but it's very exciting still.

1:41.4

It's all about the sacking of Thomas Frank. And it was written by Jack

1:45.8

Pitt, Brooke and Jay Harris of the athletic, both people who cover Spurs. The headline is as

follows. Thomas Frank was meant to bring stability to Spurs, but ended up unpopular with fans and players.

1:58.1

There we go. And so what happens in this episode is that I simply read the piece.

2:03.8

And John, when he wants to talk about it, if he hears something that gets his head scratching or he's gagging to have a go, you know, I've got a bit of analysis.

2:12.7

I'm John McKenzie. I've got something to say about that. He rings his little digital bell, and I pause, and we have a conversation about it.

2:19.1

And then when he's finished, I carry on reading again.
