I remember a story that a friend of mine told me in high school.

Lived in Southern California and with regularity wildfires would come through the foothills of Southern California.

There's been some devastating ones in recent years, but that was kind of part of my

part of my childhood and adolescence was was kind of the summer fires and

fire had broken out in his neighborhood and he was telling me with excitement and a bit of boast how they were trying

to evacuate his family but he ran to the neighbor's yard and grabbed a hose and got in the line.

This is a young man, not a man, it's a high school kid and he gets in the line to join the

firefight. And even just hearing the story something in me was just

stirred by it, you know, I like I want to be that, I want to be that, I want to do that,

I want to be that guy, I want to be the guy that runs.

And it's such a beautiful picture of masculinity

in action, courage, bravery, living in a larger story, sacrifice on behalf of others.

we are in training for reigning, and everyone is, men, women, boys, girls,

adolescents, and so we think that this will be really helpful to all of you as you think about

how God is initiating you, even now how he is shaping us as men and women who can handle his kingdom and handle the things that are before us.

So last time to catch you up, we were talking about the difference of initiating boys and adolescents.

We were talking about the difference between process and ceremony to begin with and

how ceremonies and mile markers are very important, they're very significant. But what we're really

focused on is a process over time by which the boy and the adolescent are shaped into a really good man.
