| 0:06.9 | decades on the front line of a fight which has pitted her against powerful forces in the food industry, |
| 0:14.2 | fashion, medical science and far beyond. Ingrid Newkirk's cause is animal rights, and her battlefield covers pretty much every aspect of |
| 0:24.7 | human life on earth. To put it bluntly, homo sapiens have, ever since their emergence, exploited |
| 0:31.6 | animals. To change that in 1980, she co-founded Peter, people for the ethical treatment of animals. Today the group |
| 0:40.3 | claims millions of supporters, has branches across the globe and a staff of some 500. Newkirk remains |
| 0:47.9 | Peter's president. Their mantra is simple. Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on or use for entertainment. |
| 0:57.4 | For decades, Peter activists have been taking high-profile direct action against businesses, |

| 2:00.0 | just like us. And so they should be |
| 2:02.7 | understood as much as we possibly can understand them. We shouldn't inflict needless pain on them. |
| 2:09.1 | And we should curb some of our habits that cause them a lot of suffering. |
