I'm Dr Kat Arnie and once again I'll be delving into the stories and a bit of the science

behind some of my favourite genes, to find out how they help to make us who we are, cause

or cure disease and connect us to the rest of life on Earth.

But first, it's time for a little snack.

The Fat Gene

I called this the Monday Morning Meeting scenario.

We will be sat around the table for a Monday Morning Meeting, tea meeting and someone

annoyingly brings in a plate of cookies.

Now I want to argue that there are four different types of feeding behaviours.

Behaviour number one, me.

Before the plate of cookies even stops sliding down the table, I have already picked up a cookie

and I'm starting to munch on the cookie.

If you're like Cookie Monster, Professor Giles Yo from the University of Cambridge and me,

if I'm being honest, you can't resist a tasty treat if it's put in front of you.

Or maybe you're a different cookie type.

Behaviour number two, they're the people who long for the cookie.

They desire the cookie.

But for whatever internal algorithm, they don't pick the cookie up.

But as a result, they focus on the cookie the entire meeting and missed the entire meeting.

Now the third type of behaviour is the most annoying I find and these are the people that
