The Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge is showing signs of further cooling

between November and December prices rose two-tenths percent according to the

Commerce Department. On an annual basis the inflation rate was unchanged but some

analysts pointed out that the six-month average a more forward-looking indicator

was below 2 percent%. That's the Fed's target rate.

It's been raising interest rates to get there and is hoping to do so without causing a recession.

That's the soft landing.

JetBlue has informed Spirit Airlines that it may terminate their merger agreement within days. This is not a surprise. Earlier this month

a federal judge blocked the proposed tie-up on antitrust grounds, but JetBlue says it's
