0:08.7	Obviously this is affecting everybody because everybody's going to the supermarket and literally
0:14.7	it seems like every week you go things are getting more and more expensive.
0:19.3	And so we're going to look at what the stats are
0:22.1	and then talk about what's causing it. It's a more nuanced explanation than just saying, well,
0:29.2	I just printed trillions of dollars in the last few years or 50% of all money in circulation
0:34.2	was printed in the last couple of years. So it will be interesting.
0:38.2	So we're going to go through some stats.
0:39.4	And we have one of our resident journalist, Estefania, who's going to enlighten us.

0:53.9	Well, the U.S. inflation is high. That's why it's causing
0:59.8	food prices to increase. So before we get into the rising food prices, let's get into the
1:05.3	inflation rate. So the U.S. inflation surges at highest rate since 1982.
1:11.8	This is more than 40 years, 50 years we're talking about.
1:15.8	So according to this article that I found, it says U.S. inflation rose in December at the fastest rate in nearly 40 years as price gains spread beyond a few pandemic disrupted categories to such areas as shelter costs.
1:32.3	Meaning housing.

1:34.3	The Labor Department reported Wednesday, January 19th, that the Consumer Price Index CPI increased 7% last month on a year-to-year basis, matching economists' expectations.
