Imagine if you discovered the person you loved most in the world was lying to you, and they'd

always been lying from the very beginning.

And this lie didn't just involve you, but something much, much bigger, something that would

become one of the biggest scandals in recent British history.

I'm going to take you back to the summer of 2010 to Italy.

Lisa's on holiday with her boyfriend of six years. He's called Mark Stone. It's been a tough

few months and it's a much-needed break in the Dolomites. That's near the border with Austria.

They've got their climbing equipment and Mark's packed his bike into the van.

Yeah, we'd put a mattress in the back and we had a little cooker.

Just the two of them in the wilderness.

So this was really enticing to me. Explore some more of Italy, drink lots of wine and we had

this amazing time climbing. One afternoon, Mark wants to track a famous cycling route, the

Sella Ronda. It's a dramatic circuit around the highest mountain in the

Dolomites, and it's one of the most beautiful bike rides in the world. He sets off alone,

and he circles the limestone peaks, admiring the sweeping green valleys below. Lisa, she's

agreed to drive ahead and wait for him at the summit.

So I was sat in the van at the top of this windy pass while he went off on a cycle.

The sun's beating down, bathing the mountains in a warm glow,

and Lisa's rooting around in the glove box.
