Hey everybody this is Tom Hooten principal trumpet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and you're listening to the indie cast.

I have a great debt with orchestras because I can only write with the pencil and that's the end of it until they play it

I don't have any music really so I need usually a virtue also orchestra really terrific orchestra

to play this difficult music.

And I think when you have great orchestras like Boston Symphony or New York or Los Angeles, the players

are so good that you can probably challenge them beyond what their record

or what they normally want to play and they would do it.

By death to the players is beyond what I can tell you.

Because they are a big, big part of what music is.

They're a third of music in my mind.

You have the composer, the players, and the audience.

And if you take any one of the three out we're all sunk. I remember years ago

many things to take a lot more rehearsal they do now. So so advanced are the players in the technique and skill.

And the more I can learn about their instruments, the better I can deal with giving them

parts that they will hopefully like to play. And also, I have a complaint, not serious,

that it may take me like four to five days

to write a scarce of this quick music, very quick, five days of labor.

And I say to the orchestra, now we're gonna play so and so.

And they play it and they read it instantly

and it's almost perfect.

And I think this isn't fair.

They can do it in 15 minutes.
