Summary

The Indian Wells final will be a repeat of the epic Australian Open final between Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina. Sabalenka's victory over Maria Sakkari was no surprise, but Rybakina's 6-2 6-2 demolition of Iga Swiatek certainly was. Catherine, David and Matt analyse what went wrong for Swiatek and why that match-up causes her so many problems. Ahead of the men's semis, the next instalment of #DoorsteppedByDavid sees him speak to Juan Carlos Ferrero for more insight into Carlos Alcaraz's career.

Hello and welcome to the tennis podcast coming to you from tennis podcast towers.

Indian Wells, where our women's singles final lineup is set and tantalisingly it will be a repeat

0:36.8

of quite possibly the match of the year so far, the Australian Open Final between Arena Savalenca

0:43.5

and Elena Rabatkinner. Can I have a yes please? Oh yeah, you sure can. Yes please.

0:50.7

And with all due respect to Maria Sakari at the point that Arena Savalenca booked her spot

0:57.5

in the final by virtue of a competitive but convincing straight sets victory I think.

1:05.3

We were then at the stage where I think we knew we would guarantee a pretty epic final.

1:11.3

Sabalenca Shviontech. Yes please. Sabalenca Rabatkinner. Yes please. So that was a good place to be.

1:20.3

I don't think any of us quite expected what we ended up seeing tonight a match that finished

1:26.6

not long ago on our screens here at tennis podcast tower a thrashing for Elena Rabatkinner over

1:33.7

the world number one EG Shviontech. There is a lot to talk about David. Yeah, there is and it

1:40.2

actually I think before that match took place between Shviontech and Rabatkinner. I'd have been

1:48.0

a little bit disappointed. Had you told me that Sabalenca Shviontech was not going to happen in the final

1:54.0

even though we saw that incredible match in the final of the Australian Open. It's just been so much

2:00.2

at the forefront of our minds the idea that Shviontech is the best player in the world and Sabalenca

2:06.3

is the most recent Grand Slam champion. So them clashing is something to really get excited about.

2:13.4

Now that we're in this position and we've just seen the performance that Elena Rabatkinner put in,

2:18.4

I'm now properly excited about that as a final match up because suddenly Sabalenca and Rabatkinner

2:24.4

look in fantastic form and we know how well they gel as a final. But you're right there's a lot to

2:30.9

unpick because it wasn't just about Elena Rabatkinner being good and she was very very good. That
