Summary

Indian Wells is back! As the tours return to Tennis Paradise, Catherine, David and Matt are together in the same room to talk through the draws, the pre tournament press conferences, the fact that Emma Raducanu is the favourite for the title, how big The Mix is on the men's side, and drama involving Andy Murray's shoes.

Before all of that, we also discuss Monday's announcement that the ATP has launched an internal investigation into the abuse accusations against Alexander Zverev.

The Tennis Podcast is presented by Catherine Whitaker and David Law, and features Matt Roberts. It is produced weekly year-round, and daily during the Grand Slam tournaments. It is crowdfunded by listeners each December.

Hi, this is Billie Jean King. This is Mary and Bartorri.

I'm Matt's Vylander. This is Mary Carillo. This is Pam Shriver.

I'm San Roenka. I'm Lighten Ewitt. This is Yannick Noah and you're listening to the tennis

Well folks, Indian Wales is back after two and a half year hiatus. tennis has returned to

0:28.4

paradise as we are reminded that it is several times every single day that we are not there.

0:35.2

But we are in the next best place, which is all in the same room together for the first time I

0:41.2

think since Wimbledon. It's not quite as dramatic a status when we're able to say for the first time

0:47.6

since before a global pandemic hit. It's the first time in a while. Yes, I think this might

0:54.9

be the first time we've ever watched Indian Wales together. I'm not sure. But we're watching a

1:02.0

replay of one of the matches from last night and it reminds me how visually attractive the stadium

1:08.6

court is even when you forget the paradise of the mountain range but just the colours of the green

1:14.8

surrounds the purple court. I mean there was a period where the ATP and the WTA had every master's

1:23.1

tournament in a purple court. That was a thing and I think pretty much Indian Wales is the only one

1:28.3

that's kept here and it's great to look at. The only downer is that there's hardly anybody in the

1:33.1

stadium. Yeah and we think that might be because of the temperatures at this time of year. Obviously

1:39.9

the tournament is usually held in March and it seems to be climate wise a completely different

1:46.4

kettle of fish in October to what it is in March. The daytime temperatures currently are

1:52.0

completely punishing and the courts just have pretty much no shade. Matt and I

1:59.2

late last night after Matt was sort of eyes drooping after a 7am round of golf was it David?

2:06.7

Oh yeah. Six o'clock wake up. Yeah. Madness. We'll get on to the result of that in due course.

2:14.1

That's a puffing result. I think that's already been revealed to David.
