Summary
In today's episode, I explain whether it is a good idea or not to rapidly increase the size of your portfolio if you come across a sum of cash. A lot of traders will do this without ever recognizing the emotional toll it can have on you as a swing trader and the awful mistakes you can make in doing so.

| 0:00.0 | Hey everybody. This is Ryan Mallory with shareplanner.com swing trade in the stock market. |
| 0:04.0 | And today's episode, we're going to be talking about whether you should be dramatically |
| 0:08.2 | increasing your portfolio size when you have the opportunity to do so. |
| 0:12.9 | And today's episode comes from a person who's been working for a company recently, |
| 0:17.3 | uh, had to quit the job and take a severance package, whether or not to take that severance |
| 0:22.6 | package and add it to his portfolio, his swing trading portfolio. So I think it's a pretty good |
| 0:26.9 | question that I think a lot of people, maybe not from a severance package standpoint, but just in a |
| 0:30.8 | sense of it may come across a lot of money. Maybe it's from a tax refund. Maybe it's from a |
| 0:35.1 | death in the family or something. But oftentimes throughout life, you know, there might be an opportunity where we get a bonus or we get a chunk of change back that we weren't expecting and we don't know what to do with it. So the first thing that comes to mind is, well, I like to trade stocks. Let's go ahead and put it in my portfolio and try to make even more out of it. And is that the right decision? Or is there a better approach to it? And that's what I'm going to be talking about here today. Now, a little bit of housekeeping. I'm going up on my 500th episode. I'm halfway to the number of episodes that I would like to do for this particular podcast at least. I love to be able to one day reach that 1,000 episode mark. |
| 1:10.9 | I don't think a lot of people do that per se, |
| 1:12.9 | especially doing it at the frequency, |
| 1:14.3 | which I've been doing it. |
| 1:15.1 | I started this podcast episode back in 2017. |
| 1:18.1 | So eight years in running, |
| 1:19.6 | there's been a lot of lessons and a lot of improvements, |
| 1:22.0 | even in my own training that I've been able to chronicle |
| 1:24.3 | throughout this podcast. |
| 1:25.4 | But what I want to do, and I do this with every big podcast milestone, |
| 1:33.4 | whether it's 400 or 500 or 3 or 2, |
| 1:36.2 | but what I'm going to be doing there is talking about what I've learned since the 400th episode. |
| 1:42.7 | And so there's always lessons learned throughout the |
| 1:44.4 | time because there's a pretty good amount of time that lapses in between episodes of that many. |
