Mary, her 10-year-old son Peter, her 14-year-old daughter, Susan, and their friend Jane, were at Jane's farmhouse.

When she realized that they were out of coffee, wanting a nice cup to cap off the night. They decided to make a late-night

trip to the grocery store, which was several miles away. The entire group, minus Susan,

who would stay behind, piled into the car as they headed off away from the farmhouse and into town.
