He opened the window to let some cool fresh air into the room.

At about 1.30 in the morning, on November 18, 2004,

he heard the sound of breaking glass. He assumed someone was breaking into a

vehicle, a sound not unfamiliar to people living in the city.

Curious about what happened, he got up to take a look outside.

Across the complex located in the community of Applewood Park,

he noticed a glow in the living room of one of the other townhouses.

He watched as the light grew. The window coverings appeared to melt away.

That's when he realized it was a fire.

He grabbed his phone and dialed 911.

The man told the operator the flames were growing and smoke was billowing out.

He could see his neighbors banging on the door trying to alert the occupants
