After yesterday's five-hour meeting with diplomats from Ukraine and Russia, Germany's foreign minister told reporters,

things can get even worse. Meantime, Ukrainian forces have won enough ground to make a ceasefire

unlikely, while separatists say new Russian arms and soldiers are on the way. And today it's reported that dozens of civilians, including children, were killed trying to flee from the fighting with each side blaming the other for the attack.

We'll update the action in what's at stake for Western Europe, the U.S., NATO, and Vladimir Putin.
