This is Thomas schoonmaker, arguably the world's most celebrated film editor,

with three Oscars among her numerous awards.

For more than four decades, she's worked with

director Martin Scorsese, from Raging Bull to the

color of money, to goodfellas, to the departed, to the recently released Killers of the Flower Moon.

For me, it's alive. You see see it's a living thing that's changing from cut to cut.

For Thelma each project begins not when the filming ends, but before it even starts.

I'm given the script when Marty feels it's ready to shoot, and I usually only have to read it once

because one of the great things about working

with Marty as an editor is that he is thinking like an editor all the time. The

editing style has already been decided very much before he starts to shoot.

And once Scorsesi says action, then Thelma is poised to look at the footage, known as Dailies, at the end of each shooting day.

When I get the Dailies, I review them and make notes about them.

And then Marty and I, sometimes on the... I review them and make notes about them.
