talented and in-demand directors in the world. Evo Van Hova.

Welcome to the documentary from the BBC World Service.

For this edition of In the Studio, we've been invited to rehearsals and to enter Evo's theatrical world. My name is Susan Marling and I've

met Evo in London, New York and Paris where he takes his shows. He's been called a

Maximalist minimalist since his work spans huge stages of musicals and operas,

Jesus Christ Superstar West Side Story, Don Giovanni, and dramas such as The Damned, but he loves at the same time intimate plays with just a few characters exquisitely observed.

Evo has a reputation for being super well prepared and knowing exactly what he wants. He works fast and shares the

creative vision with his chief designer and long-term partner Jan Vers felevilled.

For 20 years the tributes and awards have rolled in.

For me, it's the diary of my life. I always think that when you would see all my productions that I have made, that you could see what I felt, what I was thinking,

in what state I was at that time of my life.
