Welcome to the documentary in the studio from the BBC World Service, which gets into the

mind and process of some of the world's most creative people.

Each chapter has got to have some action in it because the promise of the book is always

all thrills all action all the time. You've sort of got to deliver on that and that's what I'm going to try and do.

I'm Antonia Quirk and in this edition of the program

we're following the creation of an action hero who uses candy floss as a deadly weapon and who confronts all manner of foes.

I think Action Dude needs to fight a giant monster.

In this one, like one big monster he's got to take on that is problem it's kind of the most basic

story in the universe hero fights monster that's what I'm going to do this is

Andy Riley British Bafter and Emmy- comedy screenwriter. He's also a cartoonist and

creator of a series of graphic novels for children called Action Dude.

Children's lives are more hemmed in now than they were before.

They're often not allowed to play outside very much.

And so they're a bit lacking in adventure and excitement.

That's what they want and that's what they dream of I think. Can I

grab that instinct and their urge and handcuffed lightning like that at the age that I

now am at 53? Well let's see. He's a friendly little boy with a big

imagination who on the face of it has an ordinary life. He goes to school, he

plays video games with his friends, Ruby and P Pigeon he pops to the shops for his

mom but he's also happy to jump out of helicopters and blast off to the moon
